چکیده

In many areas of science and engineering, we have different sources of data. For example, in geophysics, there are many sources of data for Earth models: first-arrival passive seismic data (from the actual earthquakes), first-arrival controlled-source seismic data (from the seismic experiments), gravity data, etc. Datasets coming from different sources can provide complimentary information. In general, some of the datasets provide better accuracy and/or spatial resolution in some spatial areas and in some depths, while other datasets provide a better accuracy and/or spatial resolution in other areas or depths. For example: each gravity data points describes the result of measuring the gravity field at some spatial location; this field is generated by the joint effects of many locations; as a result, gravity generally measures the average density over a reasonably large spatial region. Thus, estimates based on gravity measurements have (relatively) low spatial resolution. In contrast, seismic waves generally travel a narrow trajectory from a seismic source (earthquake or explosion) to a recording senor. Thus, the spatial resolution corresponding to this data is much higher than gravity. At present, each of these datasets is often processed separately, resulting in several different models reflecting different aspects of the studied phenomena. It is therefore desirable to combine data from different datasets. An ideal approach would be to use all the datasets to produce a single model. However, in many research areas – including geophysics – there are no efficient algorithms for simultaneously processing all the different datasets. While such joint inversion methods are being developed, as a first step, we propose a practical solution: to fuse the models coming from different datasets. c ⃝2011 World Academic Press, UK. Joint inversion of ReMi dispersion curves and refraction travel times using particle swarm optimization algorithm

Shear-wave velocity ( ) is an important parameter used for site characterization in geotechnical engineering. However, dispersion curve inversion is challenging for most inversion methods due to its high non-linearity and mix-determined trait. In order to overcome these problems, in this study, a joint inversion strategy is proposed based on the particle swarm optimization (PSO) algorithm. The ...

Joint Bayesian Stochastic Inversion of Well Logs and Seismic Data for Volumetric Uncertainty Analysis

Here in, an application of a new seismic inversion algorithm in one of Iran’s oilfields is described. Stochastic (geostatistical) seismic inversion, as a complementary method to deterministic inversion, is perceived as contribution combination of geostatistics and seismic inversion algorithm. This method integrates information from different data sources with different scales, as prior informat...

A new stochastic 3D seismic inversion using direct sequential simulation and co-simulation in a genetic algorithm framework

Stochastic seismic inversion is a family of inversion algorithms in which the inverse solution was carried out using geostatistical simulation. In this work, a new 3D stochastic seismic inversion was developed in the MATLAB programming software. The proposed inversion algorithm is an iterative procedure that uses the principle of cross-over genetic algorithms as the global optimization techniqu...

Model Fusion: a New Approach to Processing Heterogenous Data

In many practical situations, it is necessary to extract information from data of different types. For example, in geosciences, several sources of data can be used to determine the interior structure of the earth: the first arriving waves from earthquakes and from manmade sources, measurements of the earth’s gravity field, measurements of the dispersion of surface waves generated by earthquakes...

Developing 3-D shear wave models uisng a multi-objective joint inversion scheme

For this research, our main purpose is to obtain a better understanding of the Earths tectonic processes in the Texas region, which requires us to analyze the Earth structure. We expand on a constrained optimization approach for a joint inversion least-squares (LSQ) algorithm to characterize a one-dimensional Earth’s structure of Texas with the use of multiple geophysical data sets. We employed...
